It was a hot, hot, muggy day, and I worried about our fair skinned Sophie out there on that dusty field in her shorts and t-shirt -- I slathered her a few times with sunscreen (ignoring the inquisitive stares of kids who had never seen a drop of sunscreen!). I also kept pouring liquids down her throat, worried about dehydration/another migraine/whatever! Sophie's team won a few and lost a few and wound up in 3rd place overall - a respectable outcome. Mom was a little worse for wear -- standing around for 5 1/2 hours in the blistering heat and dust, waiting for all the games to finish! Yeesh! Despite the discomfort, I think it was a good experience for Sophie - enjoying the high of winning after trying hard, coping with the disappointment of defeat - all things she needs experience with! Despite a disappointing loss in the last game (followed by a few tears), Sophie said at dinner that she'd like to join in the tournament again next year.

Dodgeball
After FLOAMING, Sophie and I were off to the elementary school for the great Dodgeball Taikai (tournament). Kids are divided into teams based on their neighborhoods, and divided further still based on grade. Grades 1,2 and 3 play in the younger kids' group and Grades 4, 5 and 6 play in the older, much more serious group!
